Journeying Within: Exploring the Mind, Body, and Spirit Connection with Horses

Where I place my attention, my energy follows.

I notice this rings true for me in my relationships, not just with myself, but with horses as well. When I invite them to dance in rhythm with me, wherever I place my attention is definitely where my energy follows. 

When I feel nervous and uncertain, and do not consciously acknowledge my inner experience, I tend to automatically look for what is "wrong" and may "over correct" in an attempt to restore a fluid sense of connection. I may also misread my horses' body language and cues and perceive my horses' actions as threatening. This does not contribute towards the beauty of the need for safety, let alone attuned resonate connection. 

Yet, as I begin to notice the pattern emerging in the moment, and remember to slow everything down (dropping momentarily into my body, acknowledging my sensations and emotions and link them energetically to my needs) it's rather magical how I sense both our energies, mine and my horses, dramatically shift and come into harmony. 

My vision widens as my focus clears, and my horses' whole being responds; attuned and attentive, re-joined in heart-connection with one another. We are present to communicate with much more clarity and precision in relationship because we are open to receive the communication being sent and received reciprocally. Now, we are empowered to dance mutually responsively rather than reactively. 

One of the gifts of horses is to support us in remembering who we are as we journey home. They take us to a land that is foreign to most people, a journey into ourselves; an exploration of our mind, body, and spirit connection. Many people may never make this journey in their lifetime, unaware it may be possible, while many others rarely make the time to stop and observe their behaviors, thought patterns, or feelings, caught up in a common and too familiar struggle for survival.

Stepping into a relationship with Horse, by cultivating being present in the moment, makes it entirely possible for anyone who chooses to join with them.
